Please Don't Feed The Horses

NaMoPaiMo is back underway 😅 We've got our irish clip blocked in, and our fuzzies started! Based off of Hugo, owned by Cowichan Therapeutic Riding Association. I'm not doing any more until this dries, to ensure it's adhered correctly and everything. I really wanted some texture on her. I've mixed my acrylics with thickener too, so there will be at least 2 textures on the fuzzy bits and they'll be layered. I've tried them out on paper, and I think they're going to finish her off really nicely provided they adhere well.

I've had a late start with my first resculpt! But, we are officially started now. I sculpted her with the idea of kids horse, so you know, messy braids, areas that have been hacked with scissors for no reason.... That kind of stuff. She's who you whisper your secrets to, practice grooming on, and never forget.

First show of 2026 has been really validating. 🥰 Also my first time showing - and placing - in workmanship!

 GUYS. 🎉 My first time showing any of my self-painted custom model horses, and multiple have placed in the Top 3 in full classes 🥲 I am so thrilled!!

A progress update on this portrait model for the day! This grulla girl has such a dynamic coat, I started her shading before her static details. I've completed multiple layers of shading here - both light and dark, and began adding metallic accents to emulate her super healthy, shiny coat. Her dun markings are starting to take form now too. You can really see here how much that slight gold shimmer in just a couple places really warms her up overall! Varnishing always tones down shading, so it can look a bit dramatic leading up to that.
